About Us
Welcome To Our ICRID
Intestinal disorders comprise a multitude of diseases affecting the digestive system, the incidence of such disorders is on the rise globally and particularly in Egypt. ICRID has been developed to provide a comprehensive center with a focus on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of intestinal disorders. Our multi-speciality team at Kasr-Alainy University hospital includes gastroenterologists, surgeons, rheumatologists, psychiatrists, nutritionists and radiologists, all focused on the management of intestinal disorders with a patient-focused approach.
The group initially started as a clinic for inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) and gradually developed into a multidisciplinary practice and a separate unit inside Cairo University hospital managing a wide spectrum of intestinal disorders. The unit comprises an advanced endoscopy unit, bowel ultrasound unit, GI motility unit and a dedicated research laboratory.
Research is at the forefront of ICRID priorities. We believe the advancement of clinical management of patients must go hand in hand with scientific research aiming at improving and refining patient care. Current research at ICRID is focused on clinical management and novel therapies for inflammatory bowel diseases, as well as basic research including gut microbiota depiction and its role in the management of IBD. ICRID is currently leading multicentric studies on a national level and involved in multinational trials.
In 2021 the National Bank of Egypt provided a grant for the development of the ICRID unit. In March 2022 the new unit was inaugurated with state-of-art medical equipment and better capabilities to serve a growing number of patients.
